This is a comprehensive training developed by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP), a worldwide leader in dementia education. The training covers everything from the definition of dementia as a neurocognitive disorder to resources for caregivers and first responders on dementia awareness and managing symptoms of dementia. We discuss the diagnosis of dementia along with the many different types of dementia, including permanent and temporary forms. Attendees will gain a better understanding of what is physically happening to someone living with dementia and dementia symptoms they may observe with different types of dementia. We also discuss communication, feelings, depression, abuse prevention, end-of-life care, and life enrichment activities. The training includes tools for caregivers to use every day and even shares information on sexuality and intimacy for persons living with dementia.
Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Training (ADDCT) is a live 8-hour training that may be conducted in-person or online by a NCCDP approved, certified trainer (CADDCT). Attendees will receive a paper or virtual notebook filled with information and resources. Those who successfully complete the training are also awarded a Certificate of Completion. CEUs are currently approved for Nurses through the CEU Network and may be available for other disciplines as well.
Interested in becoming a Certified Dementia Practitioner? This is the required training needed to apply to the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (nccdp.org) for your certification. Please check the NCCDP website for eligibility requirements.
All healthcare professionals, front-line staff, first responders, and anyone who lives with, works with, or knows a person living with dementia will benefit from the information and caregiver resources shared in the Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Training. This includes senior living communities, hospitals, physician offices, dental offices, emergency personnel, home health and hospice providers, legal offices, banks, correctional facilities, and many others! This is also a great training for individual caregivers, families, and support groups. The training does not require any previous knowledge or expertise.
A Certified Dementia Practitioner is someone who is equipped with the dementia education, awareness, and resources to support their success in interacting with persons living with dementia. NCCDP offers those who successfully complete the Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Training the opportunity to apply to become a Certified Dementia Practitioner (please visit the nccdp.org website for eligibility requirements). Having Certified Dementia Practitioners on your team will help provide the family and friends of those in your care or service the comfort of knowing your team has the education and tools they need to interact in a compassionate and informed way with persons living with dementia. Your trainer will provide more information on how to apply as an individual or for a group.
Because everyone benefits from the dementia information and caregiver resources it offers! This training will give your team a better understanding of dementia and how it impacts those living with it. Your team will learn how to interact in a more easeful way with those living with dementia, making every day a better day for everyone.
